No AI ever sees your whole work
For founders

Use AI on your startup's confidential plans

Short answer: yes, but never hand your whole plan to a single AI. Copyright will not protect your idea, so the real risk is confidentiality: your numbers, your moat, and your roadmap becoming something a model learns or a competitor can piece together. You can still get AI help. You just should not give any one model the whole picture.

What a founder actually risks

The fear founders voice is that AI will steal their idea. That is the wrong thing to worry about. Copyright does not protect ideas, only the specific way you express them, so a chatbot is not going to be sued for your concept and neither is a rival. The real risks are quieter and more concrete.

  • Training: your plan becoming part of a model that then helps someone else.
  • Reconstruction: enough of your work in one place that a system, or a person with access, can piece together your strategy.
  • Changing terms: a tool that is safe today flipping its defaults tomorrow, with your plan already inside.

What to keep off the cloud

Some parts of a plan are worth more than others. Keep the crown jewels on your own device: the specific mechanism of your moat, unreleased financials and metrics, the cap table, and anything a competitor could act on. For the rest, the general narrative, the market framing, the wording, AI help is low risk if no single model ever sees the whole.

How to use AI on a plan safely

Split the document into small pieces on your own device, mask names and numbers, and spread the pieces across several models so no single one can reconstruct your strategy. Hold the sensitive parts back so they never leave your machine. That is what IPVault does automatically, and none of it is used to train AI.

Questions, answered

Will ChatGPT steal my startup idea?

Not in the way people fear. Copyright does not protect ideas, so the risk is not theft of the concept. The real risk is confidentiality: your plan being used to train a model, or enough of it sitting in one place to be reconstructed. Do not give any single AI the whole plan.

Is it safe to put my pitch deck in ChatGPT?

Not the whole thing. A deck contains your metrics, your moat, and your roadmap. Keep the sensitive slides on your device and only ever let AI see small, masked pieces that no single model can reassemble.

Can I use AI to improve my business plan?

Yes, safely, if no single AI ever sees the whole plan and nothing is used to train a model. IPVault splits the work across several models, masks the details, and lets you hold the crown jewels back.
